The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, FNIALS, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Dr. John C. Nwabueze as the pioneer Tax Ombud and Chief Executive of the Office of the Tax Ombud.
His Majesty described the appointment as a significant call to national service and a groundbreaking moment for Asaba, marking the ascension of sons and daughters of the town to prominent national positions.
The Asagba made these remarks during a courtesy visit by Dr. Nwabueze in Asaba, Delta State, on Thursday.
Further, Prof. Azinge expressed his appreciation to President Tinubu for recognizing Dr. Nwabueze’s competence and expertise, noting that the appointment was not only a recognition of his qualifications but also a reflection of the President’s respect for the people of Asaba.
“It is a proud moment for all of us in Asaba. President Tinubu’s decision to appoint Dr. Nwabueze to such an important position demonstrates not only his faith in his professional capabilities but also his acknowledgment of the contributions and potential of Asaba people to the nation,” the Asagba said.
The royal father also lauded President Tinubu’s ongoing tax reforms, which he described as key to securing the nation’s economic future. He noted that these reforms are designed to bring about economic stability and prosperity, benefiting Nigerians across all sectors.
Emphasizing the importance of the Office of the Tax Ombud, Asagba remarked that, “The mandate is clear, particularly in addressing issues such as multiple taxation and over-taxation that could directly impact the livelihood of Nigerians.”
In his response, Dr. Nwabueze, acknowledged the responsibility placed upon him in this new role and promised to serve with the utmost integrity and commitment to ensuring that the Office of the Tax Ombud becomes a beacon of fairness and accountability.
The Tax Ombud pledged good representation in the ongoing tax reforms aimed at enhancing national governance and strengthening public trust in the country’s fiscal systems.
